Lawmakers and animal advocates gathered to discuss a bill aimed at prohibiting intentional balloon releases. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset), seeks to address the dangers posed by balloon litter to wildlife, livestock, and companion animals.

Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler), a co-sponsor of the bill, was present along with Kristen Tullo from the Humane Society of the United States. Tracie Young from Raven Ridge Wildlife Center attended with a great horned owl, highlighting one of many species affected by balloon debris. Also in attendance were Rachel E. Metz, vice president of Animal Well-Being at the Philadelphia Zoo, and Harold Daub, vice president and legislative chairman of United Bowhunters of Pennsylvania.

The event took place on Wednesday, September 21st at 9 a.m., in the atrium of the Matthew J. Ryan Legislative Office Building within the State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg. It was scheduled for live streaming on RepMustello.com and RepDowling.com.
