Board of Supervisors Fills Vacancy

A familiar face dedicated to community service will join the Board of Supervisors to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Chairman Dick Hadley.

Karen Newpol was appointed by the Cranberry Township Vacancy Board Thursday to fill Hadley’s vacant position.

A graduate of the inaugural class of the Community Leadership Institute of Cranberry Township, Newpol serves in many community leadership roles, including as the current President of Bellevue Park Homeowners Association. She has also been a Cranberry Township Community Chest Board member since 2011 and past Officer and communications coordinator for CTCC's Community Days since 2007. She is a past Officer and current Chaplain for Cranberry Elks and member and past president of the Women's Business Network.

Her leadership roles include promotion coordinator for CTCC's Project of the Year that has raised funds to support the Community Sign, Scouting Plaza and Lake, exercise stations in the Parks, Kids Castle in Community Park, SportsCourts in Graham Park, Disc Golf Course at North Boundary Park, fire safety training trailers, scholarships for volunteer firefighters, and the Miracle League Field, among others.

Newpol is also current President of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Cranberry Township, as well as past Treasurer. She earned the Rotarian of the Year award and has been an active volunteer in the community since 1997.

District Judge Kevin Flaherty will administer the Oath of Office to Newpol immediately before the Board of Supervisors meeting on October 6. Newpol's appointment will be through January 1, 2024. She indicated during the interview process that she would like to complete the remaining four years of the vacant term, meaning she will be a candidate in the 2023 municipal election.

Newpol was selected from a group of 22 applicants, 12 of which were selected for extensive interviews with the members of the Vacancy Board.
