Rep. Marci Mustello of Butler has announced that 13 fire, rescue, and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 11th Legislative District have been awarded state grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC).
“These companies, and especially the first responders who dedicate their personal time to providing emergency services, are a critical component of our community,” Mustello stated. “As they rely heavily on community support for funding, I am pleased that the Commonwealth can offer these grants that recognize their high-standard of operations while providing a much-needed budgetary boost.”
The recipients of the grants include Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company with $15,201; Butler Ambulance Service (EMS) receiving $15,000; Butler City Fire Department awarded $16,174; and Butler Township Volunteer Fire District granted $42,563. Other beneficiaries are Chicora Community Hose and Relief Association (EMS) with $15,000 and an additional grant of $15,979; East Butler Volunteer Fire Department with two grants totaling $28,451; Karns City Regional Ambulance Service (EMS) receiving $15,000; Oakland Township Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Company with $14,229; Sarver Volunteer Fire Company awarded $15,396; Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company with two grants totaling $25,332.
Eligible projects for this funding include construction or renovation of facilities for fire or ambulance companies, purchase or repair of equipment, training initiatives, or debt reduction.
All applicants meeting OSFC requirements receive funding. Companies must submit an executed grant agreement by July 1 to receive their funds. The funding originates from slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue.
