Rep. Marci Mustello of Butler has expressed her views following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which now permits states to set their own abortion laws.
"I believe in the sanctity of life and the need for policies that strengthen our families," Mustello stated. She emphasized her commitment to supporting legislation aimed at protecting unborn children, mothers, and families.
Mustello highlighted efforts by herself and her House Republican colleagues in passing legislation that "respects the dignity of the born and unborn." This includes measures prohibiting abortions based on a Down syndrome diagnosis, banning abortions if a fetal heartbeat is detected, and providing options for families while respecting fetal remains' dignity. Additionally, House Bill 2252 proposes an amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution clarifying that there is no right to an abortion or abortion funding.
She noted that "abortions remain legal in the Commonwealth" under Pennsylvania’s Abortion Control Act, which regulates but does not entirely prohibit abortions.
"I will continue to fight for pro-life policies," Mustello affirmed.
