Rep. Marci Mustello has announced that 13 fire, rescue, and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 11th Legislative District have been awarded state grants by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
“These companies, and especially the first responders who dedicate their personal time to providing emergency services, are a critical component of our community,” stated Mustello. “As they rely heavily on community support for funding, I am pleased that the Commonwealth can offer these grants that recognize their high standard of operations while providing a much-needed budgetary boost.”
The list of recipients includes Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company receiving $15,201; Butler Ambulance Service with $15,000; Butler City Fire Department getting $16,174; and Butler Township Volunteer Fire District with $42,563. Other beneficiaries include Chicora Community Hose and Relief Association with two separate grants totaling $30,979; East Butler Volunteer Fire Department receiving two grants amounting to $28,451; Karns City Regional Ambulance Service at $15,000; Oakland Township Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Company at $14,229; Sarver Volunteer Fire Company at $15,396; Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company receiving two grants totaling $25,332.
Eligible projects for this funding cover construction or renovation of facilities for fire or ambulance companies, purchase or repair of equipment, training programs or reduction of existing debt.
All companies meeting requirements set by OSFC receive funding and must file an executed grant agreement by July 1 to secure their funds. The financial backing is sourced from slot machine gaming proceeds rather than General Fund tax revenue.
