Reps. Marci Mustello and Abby Major, along with Sens. Joe Pittman and Scott Hutchinson, have announced a significant financial boost for water infrastructure in Buffalo Township. The Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township has been granted a nearly $2.82 million low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to fund two essential water-line projects.

The first project aims to extend new drinking water services to 76 residences along State Route 228 in Buffalo Township. This initiative addresses the contamination issues found in existing private wells, which suffer from high levels of manganese, iron, and arsenic. "This is an important issue for local families and also a key step forward in developing and modernizing our water infrastructure," stated Rep. Mustello.

Senator Hutchinson emphasized the importance of clean water: “Clean, affordable, and reliable drinking water is among the most fundamental needs of any community.” He added that these projects will enhance system reliability and improve emergency response capabilities while keeping costs manageable for customers.

The second project involves replacing deteriorated drinking water distribution lines on Market, Fourth, and Buffalo streets in Freeport Borough. New gate valves and fire hydrants will be installed as part of this effort, complementing a lead service line replacement project funded by a previous PENNVEST grant.

Rep. Major expressed satisfaction with the state's support: “I’m pleased to see this state program help communities in our area.” She highlighted the importance of access to clean water without imposing financial burdens on residents or the authority.

Senator Pittman acknowledged the challenges posed by aging infrastructure across Pennsylvania: “Aging waterlines are problems for communities throughout Pennsylvania, as they are expensive to maintain.” He commended PENNVEST's funding for supporting critical improvements that ensure health and safety for Freeport Borough residents.

The Municipal Authority serves over 3,000 households across Buffalo Township and Freeport Borough. PENNVEST continues to provide crucial funding through loans and grants for various sewer, stormwater, and drinking water projects statewide.
