Ribbon Cut on Freedom Road Bridge Project

Ribbon cut

Cranberry issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.

The ribbon was cut Thursday on the first part of a multi-project renovation and expansion of Freedom Road.

Work on the Freedom Road Turnpike Bridge began in spring 2019 and aimed to replace an existing structure over the Pennsylvania Turnpike with a new, wider span. Work included a new six-lane bridge, widening, paving, drainage, signal upgrade/replacement, and lighting work.

As part of the accelerated bridge construction program, the structure was constructed in sections off-site and moved into final position requiring only short-term closures.

This PennDOT project is the first of several planned along the Freedom Road corridor in the coming years. Through cooperation and partnership with the Township, PennDOT, and the Butler County Commission, two BUILD grant awards from the U.S. Department of Transportation were obtained in recent years. Those funds will help further expand Freedom Road to the Beaver County line.
