A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Butler Township Police Pension Plan on September 20, 2024. The request was made by us at Butler County News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request seeks detailed information about all active employees and retired employees included in the organization's pension fund for the year of 2023. Specifically, we have asked for data fields such as last name, first name, middle name, date of birth, employer name, employment start date, employment end date, salary, compensation type, amount, year of contribution or disbursement, process date of disbursement or contribution, last disbursement amount, disbursement frequency and the total contribution amount for the year 2023.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes not only reporting accurate news but also ensuring that public institutions are held accountable.
We have requested these records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law and have asked for them in an electronic format for ease of use and dissemination. Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media entity, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver.
Our goal is always to provide our readers with comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. We will continue to strive towards this goal by making use of tools like FOIA requests to ensure transparency and accountability in our local government institutions.
