Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) will host a Hard-to-Read License Plate event on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company, First Responders Park. The event aims to assist residents of the 11th District in replacing illegible license plates.
State law mandates PennDOT to replace license plates that are deemed illegible at no cost to the vehicle owner. A plate is considered illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet away due to blistering, peeling, discoloration, loss of reflectivity, or other damages.
Drivers must bring their unexpired Pennsylvania driver’s license and current vehicle registration card to participate. Specialty plates such as those for veterans, Pennsylvania zoos, and college alumni cannot be processed at this event; drivers with these plates must work directly with PennDOT.
Mustello's district office staff and the Saxonburg Police Department will be present to help complete the required forms, which will be hand-delivered for processing. Participants can expect to receive their replacement plates by mail within a few weeks. Standard issue and personalized plates will be replaced by PennDOT free of charge.
“No registration is required for this event,” said Mustello. “We are committed to making this process as convenient as possible for our residents. I encourage anyone with a hard-to-read license plate to take advantage of this opportunity.”
The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company is located at 155 Pittsburgh St., Saxonburg.
