Rep. Marci Mustello of Butler has voiced her opposition to the proposed 2025–26 state budget, which was primarily passed by House Democrats. In a statement following her “no” vote, Mustello criticized the budget for its lack of transparency and sustainability.

“I believe there are fundamental problems with this budget and strongly disagree with the absence of clarity and lack of ‘sunshine’ the final proposal was afforded prior to passage,” she stated. Mustello expressed concerns that the budget prioritizes politics over policy and expands government without considering future sustainability.

She also highlighted last-minute changes made to the proposal before it was presented to the House Appropriations Committee, on which she serves. According to Mustello, these changes were made without explanation or a full financial breakdown. “If this budget is ‘so great,’ then why wasn’t it introduced a month ago, before the deadline, when everyone could have time to review it?” she questioned.

Mustello’s statement emphasized her disapproval of passing legislation without thorough examination and debate.
