FOIA Request Sent to Butler County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Butler County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request, issued by Butler County News, sought detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law. We asked for a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election, with specific details including each candidate’s first, middle and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number and email address.

At Butler County News, we believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we also stated our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Butler County Election Department regarding this request.
