A Message from the Superintendent -- November 12, 2020
Dear BASD Parents and Guardians,
Unfortunately, the spread of COVID-19 continues to increase in our community. It is impacting more families and employees. This directly impacts our ability to operate our schools. The number of employees excluded because of COVID-19 continues to grow. At this point we have over 30 employees excluded from work. Additionally, based on the data we have already received, we have crossed the threshold of substantial spread of COVID-19 in our community this week.
When community spread hits the substantial range, the Pennsylvania Department of Health recommends that students learn remotely. I anticipate that we will receive official notification from the Pennsylvania Department of Health tomorrow recommending we shift to remote learning for students in grades K-6 and remain in remote learning for students in grades 7-12.
Therefore, based on our Mode of Operation Chart in our Phased School Reopening Health and Safety Plan, we are preparing to move to full remote instruction next week, beginning on Monday, November 16, 2020. We will continue to monitor this on a weekly basis.
On Friday, November 13, our elementary schools will be sending home materials that are needed for remote instruction. Additional communication will be sent with more specific instructions for our elementary and middle school students and parents. Our secondary students (grades 7-12) will continue to operate as they have been since November 3.
My hope is that we can return to in person instruction sooner rather than later. To do that, we need to stop the spread of COVID-19 as much as we can. Today the county commissioners, joined by other business and community leaders, issued the following call to arms:
Wear your mask! Avoid large gatherings! Butler County fought hard to protect our health system, keep our children safe in school, protect our vulnerable seniors, and keep our businesses open and our workforce healthy! But we are seeing the virus get ahead of us. We can’t stop now! Again, wear your mask. Wash your hands. Clean surfaces. Keep 6 feet apart. Avoid non-critical activities where social distancing or masking is not possible. Only you can keep Butler County open now!
I hope this resonates with everyone. Please help us get back to school by doing what you can to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Food Service
We will also continue to offer free meals (breakfast and lunch) for all students and children 18 and younger. Families may pick up their meals on Monday between 11 am and 1 pm at either the Senior High School or Emily Brittain Elementary School. Delivery will also be available while we are operating remotely K-12.

If your child is in grade 7-12 and they are already signed up, you do not need to sign up again unless you would like to change your pick up location or arrange for delivery. Please note: Secondary students who were picking up at Broad Street will now pick up at Emily Brittain.
